Tokonoma Arts
Tusha Buntin Fine Art Services is proud to announce the launch of it’s website and private show space Tokonoma Arts — 床の間アート–
The Tokonoma 床の間 means a space between the floor, an alcove between rooms. The Tokonoma is much more than simply a place to put Art. It is a dedicated space which shows the thoughtfulness towards guests and their appreciation of artwork. Seasonal, timely and tasteful, with the visiting guest in mind.
Starting from a variation of an alter or godshelf in the Muromachi period (1336-1573) and through concepts of personal relationships developed in tea ceremony, the Tokonoma has become a space in which to share tastes and thoughtfully place items or artwork that a guest would enjoy. This concept of presentation and appreciation is the soul of Tokonoma Arts.
In our modern world of computer technology, social media, Facetime, Zoom meetings and social interaction on the internet is an ideal use for a modern Tokonoma. A space beyond an alcove off to the side, but one in which to sit and communicate with others and show your tasteful appreciation for your internet guests to enjoy. Traditional or contemporary, Hawaiian or Asian, the items that I sell are elements which can be used in this modern Tokonoma. I can also help design Tokonoma for the concept of home office space focused on internet use.
